Booth babes, or “booth companions” as sponsors and company execs would prefer us to call them, have existed for decades. Intended to draw in exhibition goers and provide them with information about products and services, the models are usually young, female and scantily clad. Although some video game conventions have attempted to put an end to the practice in recent years, the girls still appear in their droves elsewhere, with events like Tokyo Game Show in particular giving men young and old the opportunity to interact with girls massively out of their league.
A series of photos taken at a recent motor show in China, however, has surprised even Japan’s ordinarily desensitized Internet users, with comments ranging from “Wow, I didn’t know China was so liberal” to “Motor show? More like a strip show…”
